Books WE 11APR10

Read or Reading

Starting Friday April 9, 2009, I was unable to move around much, due to severe pain in my legs. As I could not sit at my computer, nor even get to my laptop, I caught up on my reading.

The following are what I read during the three day period, or started reading:

  • Hell Gate, by Linda A. Fairstein. http://www.lindafairstein.com/
The latest New York City ADA Alex Cooper mystery. As always included a lot of NYC history, as well as the usual sex crime related mystery. A good read. I had put on reserve at the local library as soon as I saw that it was out.
  • Virtually Dead, by Peter May. http://www.petermay.co.uk/
I picked this one up on speculation, because it mentioned Second Life. Once I got started reading it I could not put it down and was disappointed when it ended. I still won't be signing up for Second Life, as I don't have time right now for all my real life activities, but from what I have read previously, and heard about Second Life through my involvement with computer user groups, this seemed like an accurate representation of the virtual reality. I hope the author extends this premise into a series.
  • Locked In, by Marcia Muller. http://www.marciamuller.com/
Another book picked up on speculation. I have read a couple of her previous books, due to finding in paperback at yard sales. This as the others was a quick easy read, not needing a whole lot of concentration. I kind of liked the different perspectives of PI Sharon McCone's co-workers, rather than the single perspective of Sharon herself.
  • Rizzo's War, by Lou Manfredo.
Started upon finishing Locked In, and still reading. So far, I am enjoying the interaction between the veteran detective and his new partner. I am at the beginning of the book, so they are just feeling each other out, but I can see a real partnership developing.

Background

I just thought that others might want to know what I am reading. I read all kinds of books. Novels, Westerns, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Thrillers, Non-Fiction, or anything else that sparks my interest. I also read the daily newspaper, both in print and online, local and national, as well as several magazines that are technology related.

Where the author's official website is known to me, I will provide a link, as I have done above, so you can find other titles you can obtain to read for yourself.

I keep pretty current on favorite authors through the best sellers listing in the Sunday newspaper, as well as the new books on display at stores like Costco. When I see something in either place, I login in to my account at the local library and reserve a copy, then when it comes in they call me so I can pick it up within the next five days.

Comments welcomed

I will post what I have been reading here periodically, and welcome any suggestions as to what I should look for next. Go ahead and let me know what you think about what I have been reading, or should be reading, by leaving a comment below.
